The U.S. Census Bureau reported in January 2006, that the number of women owned businesses grew at 2x the national rate for private companies from 1997 to 2002.

However, two main issues seem to remain. Women’s access to capital and markets. It seems that women weren’t allowed to obtain a business loan without a co-signer until 1988. Sad. Now business owned by women employ over 19 million people in this country.
